Cynus Firmware v1.4.3

Hi everyone,

Thanks a lot for your support, we identified that a serious bug was introduced since firmware v1.4.0, the arm correction function became ineffective, which may cause the robot place the piece off the center of the square. We have fixed the bug and updated the firmware to v1.4.3 along with some other improvements.

Here are the main changes of the v1.4.3 firmware from the v1.4.2.

1: Fix the bug that the arm correction function became ineffective.
2: Optimize the recognition algorithm, increase the recognition accuracy.
3: Optimize the arm control algorithm, fix the bug that the arm may freeze when it moves piece at row 1.
4: Optimize the board detection algorithm, fix the bug that pieces at row 2 may be shifted to row 1.
5: Increase the string length of command “display txt *****\n” to 15 characters. Please check the latest protocol for details.

Please upgrade your robot to the latest version firmware by the latest App, And please note that:
1: You can search "Cynus chess" in App store if your smart phone is an Apple phone, or install the Apk file in the link bellow if your smart phone is an Android phone. And make sure to enable the location permission like the image bellow when you open the App at the first time, because the App will use the Bluetooth service of the phone which is based on the location service.

2: Please make sure the battery level is more than 50% before upgrading.
3: There are multiple firmware are kept on the server, please find the latest version to upgrade. The old ones are kept just in case that new bug is introduced in the new firmware.
4: It is going to take about 10 minutes for android phone and 15 minutes for apple phone to upgrade, do NOT abort the process when upgrading. And place the phone close to the robot when upgrading.

Notes

And there are other three things we’d like to let you know.

The first one is that we get reported that some of the robot doesn’t place the chess piece in the center of the square. If your robot doesn’t place the chess piece in the center of the square, maybe the robot is not well calibrated. Please check the arm calibration data by command “get arm correction” in the Bluetooth debug page of the App like the image bellow, robot will return 3 values of arm correction. You can use command “set arm correction x y z” to change the arm correction values, increasing the first one will make the robot place the piece further, increasing the second one will make the robot release the piece lower, increasing the third one will make the robot place the piece left. Or you can also send us the picture of your chessboard to our email support@manyaspace.com, we will help you to change the arm calibration data of your robot to make it work better.

The second thing is that the robot use visual camera to detect the board, so the light condition affect the recognition result much. Uneven light on the chessboard will cause a high contrast image for the robot, by which some part of the image may be over exposure and some part may be too dark, and the details of the chess piece may get lost in these areas, which may cause wrong recognition for the robot. Because unlike human's eye, the tolerance of the camera is not that good. Bellow are some pictures of uneven light on the chessboard which may cause high contrast image for robot, especially when there is a shadow of the robot on the chessboard, the chess piece in the shadow may be too dark for robot to recognize. Please avoid playing the robot in such kind of situation.

The third thing is that if you place the chess piece at a certain place in front of chess board, which is not too far from and also not too close to the chessboard, the robot may recognize the chess piece is placed in the first row of the chess board, so please do NOT place the chess piece you captured in front of the chess board.
